Simplicity is Corn on the Cob

I've mentioned before that my kids love Corn - especially my son. His favourite though is corn on the cob, the kind that you find at restaurants that accompany a steak or chicken chop. Juicy, crunchy and packed with goodness!

I recently bought The Lovely Wife an electric steamer and ever since then we've been steaming corn on the cob for the kids ever so often. While Christmas shopping, I stumbled upon a set of corn skewers that were also shaped like corn on the cob and I bought a set as a gift for The Lovely Wife from my son.

The skewers certainly make eating corn on the cob a lot easier - and also a lot more fun!

Making corn on the cob is really, really easy. I normally cut the corn cobs into smaller pieces rather than whole corn as it is easier to eat smaller cobs and there is less wastage. How to make Corn on the Cob? Simple!

Ingredients
Corn on the Cob - as many as you like!

Method
Remove husks and cut each corn into three. Steam for at least 30 minutes until kernels are tender. Toss in butter and season with a little salt and pepper.

Have you seen such a short or simple recipe? Anywhere??

What could be easier or simpler than that?? It's a great way to eat corn, it's filling and its healthy. So what are you waiting for? When are you going to make Corn on the Cob?

I've eaten corn on the cob in every province of Canada Dharm...except P.E.I. (since I have never been). It is the best and if I should ever be asked to choose my last meal this would be it.

I love those skewers, I have had my set forever - it just makes eating corn (we call them mielies) on the cob very sophisticated!

Cute! Unfortunately my husband isn't a fan, or I'd eat corn on the cob a lot more often!

We had skewers like that when I was growning up...my Dad liked fresh corn a lot, too. He grew up on farms and had frequent access to fresh off the stalk corn. His method was to bring water to a boil, add the corn, bring back to a boil, cover the pan and turn off the heat. Let sit 10 minutes only. He claimed that the corn cooked just enough but retained it's sugar that way. No matter how you make it, fresh corn on the cob is a winner!

I was wondering what is the difference between steaming the corn compared to boiling it?

I'm going to try Elle's Dad's recipe for corn because I don't have a steamer!! and I am So Sure I'll forget the corn if I steamed it for 1/2 an hour with water under it! My dog would tell me if its burning (he's done this before), but how long it takes for me to understand him?...

I have tried sweet corn in the US only once in my life, and wow! was it sweet. Only then I understood why it is called sweet corn.

But I do like corn, and I like the old flavour Malaysian corn which is steamed in its skin and sold by an old chinese man cycling round the market.
